Michael J Knapp and his wife Amber knew they were committed to home schooling their two children, Michael James Knapp Jr and Kim Rose. They knew that a formal, tradition school would never suit their nomadic lifestyle and the family enjoys getting out and enjoying the world around them.
An avid traveler, Michael James Knapp (and family) have visited nearly every state in the U.S. While they have not yet left the United States, they are "back road campers" who refer to a 24 foot tow behind camper as their summer vacation home. Every April, Michael J. Knapp packs up the family and heads off on a road trip with no definitive plan on where they are going, or what they will do when they get there. The spontaneity of these vacations have built a strong relationship and provided plenty of excitement for the Michael James Knapp family, including their Rottweiler, Cuddles.
The nomadic family funds these unguided travels in the most creative of ways. While Michael's wife Amber sets up a booth for tarot and rune readings, Michael James Knapp performs street magic for those passing by. He specializes in illusions featuring fire and sword swallowing -- displays that draw crowds. The gypsy-like Michael J. Knapp family often stops and camps at or near small town festivals, so they easily blend in as part of the festivities. Michael James Knapp Jr. (5) and his sister Kim (3) are currently taking multi-cultural dance lessons to offer even more entertainment for these road side stops which help fill the gas tank and keep the party rolling cross country.
In September, the family returns to their "regular" home, a small log cabin hidden away in the Adirondacks. Both children will be home schooled, whether on the road or in the mountains, and will be well educated on cultural history and lifestyles not often taught in the standard school system.
